Sex Education

Sex Education is not taught formally as a separate topic. Younger children will study topics on ‘ourselves’ or ‘growth’ and children in the Lower Juniors will begin to study ‘life processes’. Y6 children are, however, shown a ‘growing up’ video and discuss aspects of it with the school nurse and their teacher. Parents are informed about the sessions and invited into school to see the materials used to introduce this area of the curriculum. Parents have the right to withdraw their children if they wish and should discuss their concerns with the head teacher. Questions are dealt with in a sensitive and appropriate manner with the school nurse and class teacher.
