Enrichment
At Cobbs Brow, we firmly believe that a high-quality education extends beyond the classroom and the formal curriculum. Enrichment opportunities play a vital role in developing the whole child—broadening their horizons, deepening engagement, and nurturing essential life skills such as curiosity, confidence, resilience, and collaboration. By exposing pupils to a wide range of experiences beyond their everyday environment, we help them to discover new interests and talents, and to make meaningful connections with the world around them.
In recognition of the importance of enrichment in delivering a rounded and inspiring educational experience, we are currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our existing enrichment offer. As part of this process, we are developing a detailed ‘Enrichment Road Map’ for each cohort. This visual tool allows us to track all enrichment activities currently offered throughout a pupil’s journey at our school—from Reception through to Year 6. These include trips, visiting speakers, workshops, themed weeks, extracurricular clubs, performances, and more. School has also organised a residential visit to London in the summer of 2026 for our Year 6 children. This involves visiting famous landmarks and also the watch a West End show – The Lion King.
The purpose of the road map is twofold. Firstly, it enables us to identify any gaps or areas of limited access, ensuring that all pupils benefit from a rich and balanced programme of enrichment. Secondly, it serves as a planning framework to introduce new, meaningful opportunities that are both age-appropriate and purposeful.
A key feature of our new approach is the alignment of enrichment experiences with the wider curriculum. By linking visits, events and activities with curriculum topics and themes, we aim to deepen learning, reinforce key concepts, and enhance pupil engagement. For example, a local museum trip may support a history unit, while an author visit might enrich a literacy topic. This strategic alignment ensures that enrichment is not just an add-on, but a core and integrated part of our educational provision.
11 by 11
As part of our commitment to providing a rich, well-rounded education, we are introducing a new initiative at Cobbs Brow entitled “11 by 11”—a carefully curated ‘bucket list’ of 11 memorable experiences every child will have the chance to take part in before they leave us at the end of Year 6.
The aim of this programme is simple but powerful: to give every pupil the opportunity to engage in activities that they might not ordinarily experience outside of school, helping to broaden their world view, build essential life skills, and create joyful, lasting memories.
Each experience has been chosen not only for its uniqueness, but also for its potential to inspire, challenge, and nurture.
- A sleepover in school – in the hall or camping on the field – LKS2
- Prepare a meal / afternoon tea – EYFS/KS1 – prepare afternoon tea for parents
- Attend or take part in a live sports event – any
- Visit a historical landmark – KS1/KS2
- A theatre visit -EYFS/KS1
- A sponsored hike (We could do this at the start of each year to raise money to subsidise coaches/trips) -KS2 – yearly
- A residential to London – Year 6
- Visit a religious site
- Help the community – all – yearly
- Eat lunch at a fancy restaurant / Go for afternoon tea
- Build and fly a kite
These experiences are not simply fun add-ons—they are designed to promote resilience, independence, creativity, and social development. For example, cooking their own lunch helps children develop independence and a sense of pride; visiting the theatre can spark imagination and deepen appreciation for the arts; camping at school encourages teamwork and builds confidence in unfamiliar settings.
We believe that education is about more than academic success; it is also about ensuring that every child has the chance to build a bank of enriching, formative experiences that will stay with them for life. Through “11 by 11”, we hope to ensure that every child at Cobbs Brow leaves with a sense of achievement, a spirit of adventure, and a broader understanding of the world beyond the classroom.
