Sustainability and Climate Action Plan

Cobbs Brow Primary School

Statement of Intent

At Cobbs Brow Primary School, we believe that caring for our environment is an important part of preparing our children for the future. Our Sustainability and Climate Action Plan outlines how we are helping pupils understand the importance of protecting our planet while also taking meaningful steps as a school community to reduce our environmental impact. Through learning, practical action and working together with families and the wider community, we aim to empower our pupils to become responsible and environmentally aware citizens.

Climate Education

At our school, we believe that educating children about the environment is key to building a more sustainable future. Climate education is embedded across our curriculum, helping pupils learn about topics such as climate change, sustainability, and caring for the natural world. Through classroom learning, outdoor activities and pupil-led initiatives such as eco-projects, we encourage children to think about how their everyday actions can help protect the planet.

Decarbonisation

Reducing our carbon footprint is an important part of our sustainability journey. As a school, we aim to lower energy use and reduce waste wherever possible. Staff and pupils are encouraged to be mindful of how resources are used, such as turning off lights and equipment when they are not needed and reducing unnecessary waste. We will continue to look for ways to improve the efficiency of our school operations and make more sustainable choices.

Biodiversity and Nature

We recognise the importance of nature in supporting children’s wellbeing and learning. Our school is committed to protecting and enhancing biodiversity within our grounds by creating spaces that support local wildlife. Through planting, maintaining green spaces and exploring nature as part of our learning, pupils develop an understanding of the importance of protecting habitats and caring for the world around them.

Adaptation and Climate Resilience

As the climate changes, schools must be prepared to adapt. We aim to ensure that our school environment remains safe, comfortable and supportive for learning. This includes considering how our buildings and outdoor spaces can respond to changing weather conditions, while also helping pupils understand why these changes are happening and how communities can respond positively.

Our Ongoing Commitment

Sustainability is an ongoing journey for our school. We are committed to continually reviewing and improving our practices, involving pupils in environmental initiatives and working closely with families and the wider community. By embedding sustainability into school life, we hope to inspire our pupils to develop lifelong habits that help protect our planet for future generations.
