Miss Sharples

Early Years Foundation Stage Lead and SENDCO

Welcome to our Infant 1 Reception Class. In class we have children aged four to five years and we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Each area of learning and developmental matter is taught through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity which includes daily Maths and Literacy. Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems, and relate to others. Children learn by leading their own play, and by taking part in play which is guided by adults. PE takes place each Friday.

The children will have reading books and will also be learning new sounds and words each day as part of their Phonic sessions. We encourage children to read each night at home and practise their sounds to support their learning in school. Your child will have a reading diary in which you will be able to write a comment each night. Details of homework tasks can be found in your child’s homework book.

Don’t forget to take a look at our ‘See-Saw’ app to see the type of work and activities taking place in class. We also keep parents up to date with class news and life through our weekly newsletter which are available via the class pages section of the school website and our school Facebook page. These can also be accessed using the links at the bottom of this page and will outline dates for our drop in workshops. We would love to see you there!

Miss Sharples.

Mrs Borland

Class Teacher

Hello! My name is Mrs Borland and I’m delighted to be the class teacher in Acorns Nursery here at Cobbs Brow, where I have been working as a teacher for the past year. I am passionate about supporting young children to thrive and I am excited to be part of your child’s early learning journey.

Before training as a teacher, I spent 11 wonderful years working in an outstanding nursery, where I developed a strong foundation in early years education. I hold BTEC National Diploma in Early Years and a BA Hons in Childhood and Youth Studies, which I completed prior to QTS. I am currently trained in Paediatric First Aid, ensuring your child’s safety and well-being is always top priority.

Becoming a mum of my two daughters, now 5 and 2, inspired me to further my journey into teaching. I truly understand how important the early are for children and families. I believe every child us unique and capable, and I am committed to supporting each one to be their very best.

I have a particular passion for outdoor learning, creative and sensory (malleable) play, and building strong, nurturing relationships with both children and their families. Outside of work, I cherish family days out with my girls and enjoy finding new adventures we can explore together.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child and working closely with you throughout their time in Acorns Nursery.

Welcome to Infant 4!
I am absolutely delighted to be your child’s class teacher this year!
In our classroom, we welcome a lovely mix of children from Year 1 and Year 2. Together with the wonderful Teaching Assistant, Miss Whittle, we strive to create an engaging and nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically and socially.
Our daily routine begins with an engaging English lesson, followed by playtime. After that, the children split into their respective year groups for phonics and maths sessions. The afternoons are dedicated to exploring various foundation subjects, with PE sessions scheduled every Monday and Wednesday.
To enhance every child’s learning journey, they all have reading books and weekly spelling lists. We understand that home life can be busy; however, we encourage children to read at home every night and practice their spellings regularly.
Please look out for notifications on your Seesaw app to see all the wonderful work and activities we’re exploring together. The app can be accessed using the links at the bottom of this page.
I’m thrilled to be part of your child’s educational journey in Infant 4 and I’m looking forward to a fantastic time ahead. Let’s make it memorable together!

Class Teacher
Welcome to Junior 3.
Teaching your children is such a wonderful experience. Our school environment presents us with unique opportunities to support, nurture and develop children’s knowledge, dreams and personalities. Days in class become adventures and any challenges that we face, are faced as a team. Lessons fill our minds with fascinating facts and our hearts with love and care for one another.
Junior 3 is made up of both Y4 and Y5 children and we follow a 2 year cycle of plans to cater for all skills required to be taught. Each morning the children will begin by completing an early work task to warm them up then maths followed by English lessons will lead us up to lunchtime. Afternoon sessions cover the rest of the National curriculum and a daily reading session will finish off our days.
P.E kits are best left in class for each half term to prevent stress when children forget to bring them in. Y5 children will need to bring their swimming kits in each Monday all year. Y4 children will join in with swimming sessions in just the spring term.
Our class seesaw app will keep you UpToDate with parent information and also entertain you through videos and photographs of your children working on all subjects studied.
I am so excited for a new year of memory making with your children!
Kind regards
Miss Jones.

Mrs Ashton

Class Teacher
Welcome to Junior 4! I’m Mrs Ashton, and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year alongside Mrs Reilly, our fantastic teaching assistant. Our class includes children from Years 5 and 6.
We focus on core subjects each morning and foundation subjects in the afternoons. The children will have PE every Tuesday with a West Lancs Sports Partnership coach and a teacher-led session on Thursdays. We also have swimming sessions every Monday morning.
The children have a reading book and a weekly spelling list for home learning. We encourage children to read each night and practice their spelling regularly. We recommend the ‘look, say, cover, write, check’ approach for effective spelling practice. Each week, children will receive a Maths and English homework task to complete, given out on Fridays and returned by the following Tuesday.
To keep you well-informed about our class activities and your child’s progress, we highly recommend checking our ‘See-Saw’ app regularly. The app is where we will share updates, news, and insights into classroom life. Additionally, our weekly newsletter, accessible via the links at the bottom of this page, is another valuable resource for staying updated.
We are excited for a fantastic year of learning in Junior 4 and can’t wait to see your child’s progress.
